When asked what was the best day of your life the answer is mostly your wedding day and the days your children are born.

After going through labour twice, considering becoming a doula and being passionate about birth I am truly invested in capturing such a sacred time and season in your life. What a privilege and honour it is to capture a baby's first breath.

Through trust and respect, I am here to capture your birth in a raw and personal way.

These photos and video not only capture and freeze such an important moment in time but they act as a reminder of you becoming a mother, of what you went through to bring your baby into this world. A reminder of your strength, endurance and love for your baby and family.

These photos and video can also bring a lot of clarity and even healing to your birth as so much happens during labour and delivery. Sometimes you don't even feel like you are a part of what is happening as it is so intense and these photographs are a great reminder of it all.

Testimonials

"We thought early on in our pregnancy journey that we may want to have a birth photographer and Meg confirmed our feelings the moment we met her. She is not only a phenomenally skilled photographer but is the loveliest human and it was such a joy to share our journey with her. She did our maternity shoot, photographed our birth and completed documenting our journey into parenthood with a new born shoot. We also got the most incredible short video of the birth of our son Kit, I really just couldn’t recommend this amazing woman enough." - Irene

Megs is incredible!

Incredible at what she does and the person she is! She made me feel so comfortable and so seen during our birth! Our birth didn’t go as planned and everything was a whirlwind and quite difficult and seeing the photos afterwards helped me a lot! I can’t thank her enough ❤️❤️❤️ it was so beautiful and emotional to relive those moments, and then finally when our boys came home to us, Megs was able to finish capturing our story and how it all came together was wonderful!

Her work is amazing and such a gift to us! - Lindsay

Megan captured our birth and family in a way that is so sacred and beautiful... The feeling portrayed in every photo is priceless. There are no words to describe it accurately, but having the birth of our daughter captured is one I will cherish forever. Thank you so much Megan, thanks to you, this moment will never be lost or forgotten . - Michelle

It is always a great honour to capture the beginning of life itself. I use my documentary style to capture birth in a respectful, non-obtrusive way while abiding by the rules and regulations laid out by the SABPA (South African Birth Photography Association) of which I am a proud member of. I love to capture all the little moments from a distance while still using a creative, storytelling approach.

BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ

WHY HIRE A BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER?

How many times have you heard the best day of my life was my wedding day and the day my children were born. We all hire photographers for our weddings so why not for our births. Just imagine being able to look back 10,15, 20 years down the line and be able to see the moment your child was born, your reaction, the first time you held your baby or imagine being able to show your pregnant daughter photos of her being born. It may seem like a strange concept to many especially fathers but I photograph births with the utmost respect and honour and shoot them in an unobtrusive way.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY?

Firstly what a great honour it is to capture the beginning of life itself. I use my documentary style to capture birth in a respectful, non-obtrusive way while abiding by the rules and regulations laid out by the SABPA (South African Birth Photography Association) of which I am a proud member of. I love to capture all the little moments from a distance while still using a creative, storytelling approach.

WHAT IS A FRESH 48 SESSION?

This session is an intimate session scheduled for the first 24-48 hours of babies life. Either taken at the hospital or at home depending on where you are. This is a great way to capture all those little details (who doesn’t love tiny baby feet or a little button nose), dad’s first diaper change, meeting of the siblings for the first time or granny’s first cuddle. From the moment your baby is born they will begin to grow so quickly – a noticeable difference even every few days. So this is a lovely chance to photograph them at their smallest.

what about permission?

Before booking permission from your birth team needs to be granted. I will provide you with a form which you will need to take with to your next appointment and get all the relevant signatures. Once we have this we can continue with the booking.

How do we book you?

After permission from your birth team is received I require 25% deposit and a signed contract to secure booking. The balance is then due 1 month before estimated due date.

How do you make sure you don't miss the birth?

For planned natural births I am on call from 38 - 42 weeks. We stay in close contact the whole time. I will also allocate another SA Birth Photographers Association member to your birth as well as a back up in case for some unforseen reason I can not attend your birth.

When do you start documenting a natural birth

From active labour (6-7cm) until 1-2 hours after baby is born.

When do you start documenting a belly birth (c-section)?

I will be with you from 1 hours prior to birth until 2 hours after.
